At the NorthBay Restoration Association (NBRA), we go beyond connecting certified restoration professionals—we're committed to equity in healthy living. For families who can't afford indoor air quality testing, mold assessments, remediation, or water damage cleanup, NBRA steps in to facilitate assistance.
We partner with trusted members, community organizations, and funding sources to make these essential services accessible, ensuring no one in the greater North Bay Area is left in a home that's making them sick.
The Urgent Need: Protecting Our Most Vulnerable
In the North Bay's damp climate, mold and poor indoor air quality thrive in older homes and rentals—especially in low-income housing where maintenance is often deferred. Reports show that up to 6.9% of households report concerning mold levels, rising to 15.8% in low-income areas with associated pests and dampness. In Sonoma, Marin, and Napa counties, wildfire smoke infiltration and flooding exacerbate these issues, turning homes into health hazards.
Children in Toxic Environments: A Silent Crisis
Children are especially at risk—their developing lungs and immune systems make them up to 10 times more vulnerable to mold spores than adults (EPA data). In the North Bay, where low-income families often live in substandard rentals, exposure can lead to:
- Respiratory Concerns: Persistent coughing, wheezing, and asthma attacks. Studies show mold exposure increases asthma risk in children by up to 30-50%, with North Bay counties reporting higher childhood asthma rates linked to poor indoor air (Bay Area Air Quality Management District).
